Maracatu is a traditional style of Afro-Brazilian percussion and music that comes from the northeastern state of Pernambulco. TallBeat (formerly MaracaTALL) stilts percussion performances have a minimum of 3 to a maximum of 6 members. Hala lived in Brazil (Bahia) where she learned to speak Brazilian Portuguese, and also played in a Samba and Afro-Axe style Brazilian Batucada for three years while she was living in Montreal( 2005-2007). Hala’s unique dual skill set of stilting and drumming makes TallBeat her most entertaining tall-walking project.
After their first performance season of 2014 was a great success, MaracaTALL completed a tour of the U.A.E. for the Dubai Shopping festival Jan 2015! The following Slideshow and video features our Dubai Tour.
